Some Morning Reading

Mornings with the Peanut Gallery

So this morning Mark asked if I wanted to play hookie today--which would be nice because I haven't been getting enough sleep, and I've been super busy at work, and an extra day off (Memorial Day weekend was NOT relaxing for us) would be nice. But I have an important meeting, so I said, "I can't, I have a meeting with my chair today." Mark started laughing and said, "Oh-ho, you're so special. Well, I have a meeting with my desk."

o.o;;

(I had meant my department chair, fyi.)

Makes You Smile

One of my birthday presents was this cute mousepad. Mark thinks it's supposed to be a sheep, but to me I see a little smiley face in a cloud. Either way, it's so cute, how can you be in a bad mood when you see it?

Project Grow: Week 2

Here's our little herb corner in our garden. We're thinking about adding some chives at least. We also spread some seeds, so we'll see if anything grows from that.

Pretty Pacing Kitty

I love seeing the cats at the zoo. It is awesome how muscular and powerful you can tell they are.

Dinosaurs Still Roam the Earth!

While we were out window shopping we saw this cute dinosaur (err...dragon...?). It scared the bejeezes out of me when it made noise.

Gah! I'm 29!

But don't tell anyone that's my age, because I'm still young at heart, baby! For my birthday, Mark let me pick from different activities: we went to the Detroit Zoo, played glow putt-putt, saw Neverending Story in the movie theater, had a dinner picnic in bed, saw Speed Racer in Imax, and went out to eat at lots of great places, including Angelo's, which is one of my favorite brunch places in AA. Happy Birthday to me!

Project Grow Continued

Here's our little plot with its pathetic fence. We were feeling very overwhelmed, but now that we have a fence up, it seems a bit more manageable. Also, friends and family have been giving us tips, and that is also helping. Tomorrow we plan on planting the vegetables we got already (as long as the weather doesn't turn nasty!), and then we'd like to buy a yellow squash, a zucchini, and a pumpkin plant (maybe) to add to our garden. I can't wait to get some fresh vegetables from our garden!

Project Grow

So, my friend Stephanie and I are undertaking a vegetable garden this summer. We rented a plot in a local park (it is called County Farm Park, by the way!) and we went yesterday to get our plot ready. We were warned about plenty of local critters that might want to eat our plants, so we put up a fence from materials left from some of last year's gardeners. Over the weekend we bought Basil, Oregano, Parsley, four types of tomato plants, green pepper, red pepper, and a cayenne pepper. We also have marigold seeds and a herb mix we'll try.

What I Can See Outside My Window

This squirrel always likes to come to sit on top of the greenhouse, and on this day he just looked a little bit sorry in the windy and rain.

Interesting Reads

So, I was catching up on my Google Alert emails, and came across a couple of interesting posts...

"New Global Olympic Event: Asymmetric Information Competition," by Monroe Price, one of my authors when I worked at the Press.

"Earth Day Michigan 1970: a look back in time," on Great Lakes Blogger.

"Climate Change Leaves Wildflowers in the Cold," where a 35-year study indicates global warming.

"Scanning world's every book means turning many, many pages," about the Google Book project at UM.

Happy Reading!

Happy May Day!

It's my birthday month!

What I Can See Outside My Window...

It looked so weird to just see the white tile on the ground. It gave the effect of snow, despite the leafing trees. Even more bizarre looking was this patchwork of white and green grass.
