What's Outside My Window?

Squirrel's just catching some rays before moving on with his day!

New Car Feature

No, those aren't car antennas! I was just amazed by the sheer size of this dog, who was sticking his head out the sunroof while he was sitting.

Boone's New Friend

So Boone has made friends with one of our cats, Jasper. Watch how Boone sticks Jasper's whole head in his mouth, and Jasper doesn't seem to mind! You don't really need audio to watch this--you would just hear off-hand comments from the peanut gallery.

It Didn't Die!

So I thought I had totally killed the zucchini plant I moved, but when I went to water the garden yesterday I found that part of it had revived. It's nowhere near the other plants, but maybe we'll get more zucchini at the end of the season then.

The Herb Forest

The herb section looks totally overgrown: basil, oregano, parsley, dill, and cilantro that didn't *quite* die, so I have hope it will revive.

Our Garden

Here are some yellow squash, and our butternut squash growing behind them.

Our Garden

Here are some little peppers starting to grow as well (I'm not sure if they're the red or green ones).

Our Garden

Here are some of our hot peppers growing. We really have no idea when we'll be able to pick them (or "pluck" them, as Stephanie says).

Project Grow: Week 11

Well, we've got a lot of vegetables growing now! The tomato plants have tons of little green tomatos on them. Zucchinis are ready for picking. The squash is starting to grow, and so are the peppers. And of course, our herb garden is thriving!

Welcome to the Family

My sister got a new dog, Boone. He is full of antics! (you'll see some shortly)

A New Friend

On Monday morning when I got into my car, I noticed a little bug on the outside of my window. He apparently was hitching a ride to campus, because he clung on until I parked in the parking structure.

Adventures in Markyland

Mark says this is true. I, of course, disagree.

Project Grow: Week 9

Here are some little squashes starting to grow, and supposedly our tomato plants have little tomatos on them!

Homemade Strawberry Jam

Some, I had a lot of fun going strawberry picking this summer. I even got Mark to go with me--we brought Niles, so Mark hung out with Niles in the car for half the time, which was fine because the picking was so quick! We went to Rowes U-Pick, which is supposedly the largest strawberry u-pick in Michigan. The first time I went (with Mark) we were there for about a half hour, and we very easily filled a tray. The second time I went with Holly and the picking was slower (we only stayed until we could no longer stand the rain), but I still got enough to make three batches of strawberry jam (12 jars total). I've already tried out the jam, and it is good! :)

A Little Bit of Color

In our garden, Stephanie added some marigolds to add color, and to hopefully distract hungry passersby from munching on our vegetable plants. (As you'll see, we weren't totally successful in this preventative measure.)

Something's Been Eating Our Broccoli!

The other day I went to weed and water the garden, and found that something had decided the broccoli was tasty. Only one plant still looked good, the other three had been munched on (the one pictured was the worst off).
